London-based Thoma Bulwer's music has always seemed happiest when pulling ideas from different corners of UK soundsystem culture, and that restless approach is very much evident across this latest four-tracker. 'Work It' gets things underway with a chunky house-techno groove that rolls along with the confidence of a seasoned dancefloor operator, before 'Bits 'N' Bobs' heads somewhere more playful through shuffling 2-step rhythms and low-end pressure inspired by time spent amongst the free-spirited crowds of Freerotation festival. Flip it over and 'Situation Escalation' lives up to its title, pushing harder through wiry drums and mounting intensity. Rounding things off is 'Home Wrecker', a deliciously crooked blend of garage, breaks and UK bass science, peppered with strange vocal artefacts and enough rhythmic mischief to keep dancers permanently off balance.
