Dutch techno, electro and deep house legend Orlando Voorn makes his first appearance on Matthew Jesus AKA Black Eyes Lost Control 2097 label, a platform for the founder's own self-designed micro-genre, 'hydro-trip'. We'll leave you to judge whether the vastly experienced Voorn has nailed the brief, but it's certainly a fine EP - one in which his instinctive grooves, basslines and chords come wrapped in dusty samples, hallucinatory motifs and swampy sonics. He sets his stall out via the jazzy, Detroit Beatdown-influenced deep house of 'Vibrations', before offering up wide-eyed, lightly psychedelic headiness ('Summer Breeze') and semi-organic deep house warmth (the superb 'Purpose Pursuit'). Label chief Black Eyes rounds things off via a chunkier, weightier and more bass-heavy take on 'Vibrations'.
