EBE's 'Held Over', originally released in 1999, still sounds wonderfully peculiar with all jangling percussion and nervous little synth figures ricocheting around the mix like loose wiring in a machine room. On the flip, Nectar's 2003 cut 'The Other' veers into the strange with scattering glitchy synth textures and cold-edged electronics across a thick, rolling framework, giving the track its richly experimental unease. There's still enough off-kilter electronic dislocation humming at the edges, though, to make its inclusion on Kalahari Oyster Cult feel entirely natural.
